Femme Fatale Makeover Event

This blogpost is more of a "throwback" kind of post. For some reason I only got the motivation to write one right after my Algebra midterm, weird? Not at all. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy today's post! The Femme Fatale Makeover event, which was held on November 4th in the Faisaliah's ESPA by Sabina Marini in collaboration with Make Up For Ever, Poinciana fine jewellery and Sabia Boutique, was a 2 hour event in which a makeover was to be offered, from professional makeup tips to expert styling advice, they've gotch yo' back in turning you into a total femme fatale! Drinks and h'orderves were being served throughout the even. I honestly think such event should be made bigger and better for the public to empower women, make them more confidant in themselves and fiercer, thus making them much more sexier. (My choice of words may or may not have something to do with me listening to Beyonce as I'm writing this post). All in all, the event was fabulous and Sabina looked absolutely stunning! Which is nothing new for Sabina x

Life is a Beautiful Sport

At first he seems charmed by the woman and in awe of her, then confused and nervous thinking if he should go for it or not. You can see the stress and hesitation, should he or shouldn’t he make the big leap? Just as he touched her hand, he took the courage to run for it and jump in the life changing opportunity. Will he make it? As he was anxious falling into the unknown hoping she would fall with him too, he finally planted the kiss he desired and risked for. In joy, they both floated in the air with bliss and relief. He did it.

That ladies and gentlemen, was Lacoste’s first advertising film “The Big Leap” from their newest ad campaign “Life is a Beautiful Sport”. Directed by Seb Edwards, the film had a beautiful message behind it. No matter what your goal is, whether it was changing majors, leaving your job to pursue your long life dream, or popping the question, you are most likely to make the big leap.

DIY: Pink Lip Scrub

This homemade lip scrub is superb for dry, chapped and sensitive lips. It scrubs off the dead skin cells on your lips in the most gentle and delicate manner, leaving you with a soft and moisturised pink pout.
What makes this lip scrub even better is that the ingredients are easily accessible!

What you'll need:
1 tsp each of both coarse sugar and granulated sugar (To give texture)
½ tsp olive oil
½ tsp Vaseline Petroleum Jelly
A tiny drop of rose water
A drop of food coloring of choice, preferably something that complements the natural color of the lips (Can be substituted with makeup such as lipstick, eyeshadow, loose pigments... etc.)

Mix it all up and you're good to go!

Here are some really cool 'at home' remedies from Huda Kattan, Makeup Artist & Brand Ambassador for Vaseline Arabia, using Vaseline:

1. When needing some extra volume to your lips, simply add a few drops of peppermint extract to a drop of Vaseline. Mix together with fingers and apply to your lips before getting ready. The peppermint extract will help plump your lips, while the Vaseline will add extra hydration! This is the perfect recipe for gorgeously voluptuous lips!

2. Want super soft hands or feet? Grab some old socks and cut off the toes and some old gloves and cut off the finger tips. Then, mix together 1 part almond oil and 3 parts Vaseline, then apply on your hands and feet. Apply socks and gloves and go the bed. When you wake up, simply rinse your feet and hands! Voila, extra soft skin you can feel proud of!

3. Break a blush or bright pink eye shadow? Simply crush the mixture and mix with Vaseline Petroleum Jelly. Place mixture into a re-sealable container and use as an extremely hydrating lip balm. Not only will you create a gorgeous flush to your lips, but your lips will so soft!

4. Wrinkles got you worried? Take it from the pros in Hollywood! After applying moisturizer on face, try applying a small amount of Vaseline in areas like around the eyes or neck. Using this over time can help improve skin elasticity and fight against wrinkles! This is one of Jennifer Aniston's favourite tips!

5. In need of longer lashes? Clean off an old mascara wand and create your own lash enhancer! Simply squeeze one vitamin E capsule and mix with a spoonful of Vaseline. Then place mixture in a container and brush on lashes before bed time. The Vaseline will provide hydration, to help your lashes grow long and keep them from breaking!

6. Create your own lip stain easily! Mash together some blackberries, and pomegranate seeds. Then drain the juice and mix with some Vaseline. Mix slowly so the mixture is even. Then apply on lips in the morning and as needed. The berries bring out a gorgeous redness to the lips that is very alluring and flattering! Lips will be hydrated and extremely beautiful in tone! Refrigerate after use, discard after 3 days.

UM's Luxury Study

On the 26th of March, an event was held by UM in London. It was a luxury study by the name 'Shared Stories: The new global luxury storyteller' that I was asked to be a part of. The study's objective was to analyse luxury brand consumers' behaviours to open brands' eyes and guide them on how to tackle a group that now accounts for 50 percent of all luxury spend.

This study has been a breakthrough for UM. The insights we have uncovered will allow marketers in the luxury space to deliver real business outcomes for customers within this fiercely competitive market” said Gary Bonilla, Chief Strategy Officer, UM G14.

UM partnered with Central St Martin's College of Art and Design, gathering data and information from over 1000 luxury consumers across the UK, China, Russia and the Middle East, and overlaying this with social media tracking across 65 countries.

In our digitally democratized world, luxury behaviours and values have changed dramatically, yet marketing remains stuck in the past – with print often still accounting for almost 90 percent of media spend" said Bonilla.

There were three types of storytellers, Chinese luxury consumers as the Essayists, Russians as the Autobiographers, and finally Middle Easterners as the Freestyle Poets. They are united as 'global' citizens by media behaviours, yet have clear needs and core drivers related to their local culture and traditions.

On their next research, they're going to be targeting luxury consumers in Brazil, South East Asia and India.

Saudi Design Week

Hello Beauties! Today I'm going to be talking about my SDW experience! On Feb 9th, my cousin and I went to Harvey Nichols for the launch of the vintage Chanel pop up shop and to watch the screening of Versalles '73 as well. Before we went to watch the documentary we first met and chatted with HRH Reema Bandar Al Saud, Sanaa Makary and the Harvey Nichols team. We also talked with the one and only Cameron Silver, he was such a charming man!
We then went in to watch Versalle '73, it was such a breath taking experience to watch the documentary, you could actually feel like you were one of the audience there in 1973, a lovely feeling indeed! In the theatre there were some delicious cookies, muffins and cupcakes all baked by Rabat Manzil
After the fashion screening, my cousin and I ate lunch at Lusin then went straight ahead to King Faisal Center for the Design conference. There we learned many things and met a lot of new people such as Deborah Draper the director of Veralle '73, Hala Alharthy whom is Cameron and Deborah's stylist, Dalya Fatani and heaps more.
I managed to snap pictures of my favorite looks at the conference as well as my favorite vintage Chanel pieces.

Winter Skincare Tips

When winter arrives, you not only have to bring out your winter clothes, but you also need to change your skincare routine. Moisturised and flake-free skin doesn't come naturally (Unless god has blessed you with such glorious skin.. LUCKY YOU) and especially in the winter season. So here are some tips to achieve that fabulous glowing skin from Dermatologist & Brand Expert for Pond’s Arabia, Dr. Lillian Khan.

Pay attention to your face and neck cleansing routine:
-        You will notice that your skin will need to change cleansers when the winter air starts blowing in. During the summer, skin becomes more oily with the heat and humidity, but in winter that's not the case. Choose a mild non-irritating cleanser, and be sure it doesn't contain any harsh ingredients. One of my favorites is Pond’s Gold Radiance Foam cleanser. For dry skin types, you will need a milk or a lotion base moisturising cleanser. All skin types should still exfoliate gently once a week to remove debris, clogged pores, and dry flaky skin.

You will need your moisturiser:
-        All skin types in winter will need some sort of moisturising fluid, lotion, or cream - even acne prone skin. Read labels carefully and choose the product that is specific to your skin type and problem. So, if you suffering from acne, choose a hydrating lotion that is specific for acne prone skin, and that is labeled non comedogenic. If you have dry eczema prone skin, choose a hypo allergic non irritating moisturiser.

Sunscreens and BB creams:
-        Just because you feel the cool winter air it doesn’t mean that the sun isn't shining along with its harmful rays. A broad spectrum sunscreen that protects from both UVA and UVB with the recommended SPF 30 and above is still mandatory. You can use the Pond’s Flawless White BB+ Cream with its GenActiv formula that brightens your natural skin tone. It’s active ingredients works on your skin tone, and provides both coverage and sunscreen all in one to give flawless looking skin immediately and which works on your natural glow.

Use Milk and lactic acids for softer skin:
-        It was said that Cleopatra used to bathe in milk which has kept her skin soft and smooth. That's not far from scientific truth as milk contains lactic acid. This ingredient is used in body moisturisers to help remove dry flaky skin. Look for those in moisturisers; apply it twice daily to rough dry skin to get smoother hydrated healthy looking body skin.

Don’t forget to exfoliate:
-        There is a nice honey and sugar body at-home-remedy that I like to make and use myself. Honey acts as a humectant and reduces inflammation and sugar when massaged on the skin increases circulation and acts as a mild exfoliant. Use this mixture once per week to elbows and knees and you will notice those areas becoming softer and brighter with regular use.

Shower oils and lotions:
-        I’ve become a big fan of prescribing shower oil cleansers to my patients who complain of dry flaky irritated skin. Many of us have busy lives and this has reduced the need to use a moisturiser right after showering and bathing. Another option is to find good moisturising shower cleansing lotions such a Dove Deeply Nourishing Body Wash.

10 minute showers and bath:

-        Feeling cold makes us want to take longer hot showers and baths to relax and warm up. But the longer you shower or bathe, the dryer the skin becomes. Limit your bath and shower to not more than 10 minutes and make sure the last rinse is with slightly colder temperature water.

Dr. Lillian Khan also recommends to pay a trip to your dermatologist every once in awhile especially during season changes.

Purifying Cleansing Foam | Shiseido
Night Moisture Recharge | Shiseido
Intensive Nourishing Moisturiser Cream | Vichy Neutrilogie 2
